very upset

Yesterday, California supreme court has ruled to uphold proposition 8. If you do not know, proposition 8 puts a ban on all gay marriage in the state of California. This also means that all gay marriages have been annulled that happened prior to this legislation. This is a very sad day. these people who voted for proposition 8 must be very close minded people to think a man and a man or a woman and woman should not be given the same rights and be able to marry just like a man and a woman should. My question is why? Why should these people not be afforded the same rights as everyone else (isn't that what the constitution says, all men are created equal?) why does it effect YOUR life if 2 gay men want to get married? your life does not change any, you can go on just like it wan any other day, Hell you probably wouldn't even notice the difference. why is your religous beliefs deciding this? yes "Marriage" as a term is a religous term, however it is a LEGAL document there fore it is the states jurisdiction, is it not? if the church does not agree with it, they don't have to perform the marriages and the couple can go elsewhere, but now they can go nowhere. It is called tolerance people. you may not agree with it, you may not like it but this is life and there are gay people in the world and you sometimes you just have to fucking get over it. my fiance always says (in his devils advocate tone of voice) why make an exception for a small percentage of people? I ask why go to great lenghts to ruin such a small group of people lives? they are all people! and lets step away from a social point of view and look at economics for a second. California is in debt, they didnt even give anyone tax returns, they just kept the money. Marriage lisences= money, weddings =money, california lost a WHOLE lot of money on this one.

come on America. I though this was the home of the brave and the land of the FREE. This legislation shows me a bunch of cowards afraid to face reality and it takes away freedoms of thousands of people. I thiought this was 2009 not 1960 and i thought we were moving in a forward direction. i guess not!

if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison
us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not
revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will
resemble you in that."

I am totally with you on this. It makes me sick to my stomach when I hear right-wing assholes call this "a victory for traditional marriage." As if by holding down gay people and depriving them of basic rights somehow validates marriages "between one man and one woman." Almost half of all "traditional marriages" end in divorce, so what's that say about the sanctity of marriage. UGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

I hate it that this hasn't worked out yet. It's ridiculous! I don't think anyone is going to give up, and hopefully we will see gay marriage legalized soon.
